THE recession is no worse than the one in the late 1980s and early 1990s and Plymouth is well placed to benefit from the recovery, the new head of the City Development Company has said. Gavin Carrier, who took over as chief executive of the CDC in September, described Plymouth as "a terrific place", but said it was "vastly undersold, with attributes that never reach the light of day".

He said his job was to help tell the world about the city's potential, which he said was immense.
