TOM DALEY (pictured top) claimed his first title of the year but was prevented from claiming double gold by synchro partner Peter Waterfield at the British Gas National Cup in Southend yesterday.

A disappointed Daley suffered a rare setback after being edged into second place by reigning 10m platform champion Waterfield. In a thrilling final, the lead changed hands a number of times throughout and Daley led at the halfway point. Daley scored 61.05 points for his attempt at one of the world's hardest dives, but still held a 12- point lead over his rival.
