Summary


John holland of Higher St Budeaux (Your Say, March 13) clearly has a problem. He complains at least one Your Say correspondent took the comments made in his recent letter about National Servicemen as an insult to them, which he claims was not his intention. Well, he also succeeded in fooling me.

In order to clarify beyond doubt that his remarks were not meant as an insult, he proceeds to describe conscripts, as opposed to volunteers, as 'a ham-fisted, illiterate, ungovernable rabble of resentful captives'. Perhaps we should rejoice that he chose not to employ his literary talents in criticising such young men.
