THE boy in front of me bangs his ski pole against a tree and the rest of us dive for cover from the falling snow.

We are on a surreal night-time hunt for an imaginary creature and this is how we are driving it from its hiding place. Legend has it that the 'dahu' (pronounced die-you and apparently looking something like a chamois) has two legs shorter on one side than the other, the better to walk around mountains.
