Summary
VOLCANIC activity in Iceland earlier this year, and consequent disruption of air traffic, demonstrated to me that railways can play a much wider role and that the timetable for high speed rail links needs to be brought forward.
In my opinion, hundreds of miles of track torn up following the Beeching era need to be reinstated to form a new network which would also facilitate the greater use of rail freight. I feel it is ludicrous that single track working on the mainline track between Exeter and Waterloo has continued despite a freight depot, and a new town being planned to the east of Exeter.See the full content of this document
