MORE pets would be needlessly put to sleep or left to suffer in pain if a city animal hospital was not here to support struggling owners, a veterinary surgeon has said.

Robert Newcombe spoke out as the city's PDSA pet hospital continues to fundraise towards new state-of-the-art facilities which will help vets to treat the growing numbers of animals being brought in for treatment.
