EURYDICE Drum Theatre Performances until March 13 US WRITER Sarah Ruhl has drawn inspiration from the ancient Greek myth about Orpheus, who was permitted to visit Hades to retrieve his beloved wife Eurydice from the grasp of the ruler of the Underworld, but who loses her for a second, permanent time, when he fails to abide by the stricture that on the journey back he must not look at her.
Sarah Ruhl's version offers a number of variations. She has Eurydice seeking advice from her dead father about her wedding, but his letters fail to reach her. Eventually, on her wedding day, one arrives.See the full content of this document
