This coming Tuesday sees the celebration of Ireland's patron saint, so a happy St Patrick's Day to all our Irish readers.
It was 40 years ago this St Patrick's Day, while serving with the RAF in the Middle East, that I was involved in a road traffic accident which killed my friend sitting next to me. I know that it so easily could have been me killed. Ever since then, every March 17, I remember this guy, also called Ian like me, and I think of his girlfriend, Grace, who was waiting for him back home in southern Ireland.See the full content of this document
