Summary

ARGYLE defender Stephane Zubar's CONCACAF Gold Cup adventure in the United States is over - after he failed to take an opportunity to shock the host nation in Guadeloupe's final match of tournament. Guadeloupe went down to a 1-0 defeat to the United States in Kansas City.

The result sent the States through to the quarter-finals as the runners-up behind Group C winners Panama. Guadeloupe finished up without a point at the bottom of the table, after three losses by a one-goal margin. It could have been a different story on the night for the French dependency, though, if they had been able to convert an early chance which fell to them. After US goalkeeper Tim Howard had flapped at a corner, Landon Donovan's attempted clearance hit Clint Dempsey and was diverted straight to Zubar - whose rising shot from a range of about 12 yards hit the top of the crossbar. From then on, the islanders were on the back foot for most of the game, which was settled by a MISS: goal in the ninth minute from former Hull City striker Jozy Altidore. Zubar, who started two of Guadeloupe's three games at the Gold Cup, and his fellow defenders did well to restrict the States to only one goal.
