I HAVE recently been told that it costs Pounds 1.7million per annum to run the Derriford Hospital car park. This is more than Pounds 30,000 per week. How can that be? What is the breakdown of costs? Is the parking contracted out, and if so to whom? Is there any independent check on the contractors, for example on the total number of tickets actually issued? If, as claimed, the car parking fees 'only' amount to Pounds 1.3million per year, this means that the car parking has been run at a loss. This seems impossible.
Who owns the land being used for car parking? How many full-time attendants are employed, and on what salary? Who pays for the lighting, if any? Who pays for the road repairs, if any? And above all who was responsible for awarding the contract and how, if at all, is it supervised? As it is the people of Plymouth, and surrounding areas from whom the Pounds 1.3million has been extracted, can we now ask the hospital for some enlightenment, please?See the full content of this document
