SINCE signing a letter querying the council leader's role in the Lord Mayoralty and reading the readers' comments on the same, I have been doing some thinking.
It would appear the leader, Cllr Pengelly, has shifted in her opinion on the benefits of having an elected mayor for the city. It is the only reason I can think of for her movement toward having a higher profile in, and greater involvement at, Lord Mayor's civic events. This is not necessarily a bad thing, given the poor record her current Cabinet are holding, but she should be more honest about her ambitions. Indeed, I would suggest she is in a good position to head up resurgence in the elected mayor debate in the lead up to next year's local elections.See the full content of this document
