IF YOU should take a trip to Wembury beach this weekend you may see an inconspicuous little chap, quietly going about his or her business munching bits of dead plants and animals.

This is our most common rockpool starfish, the cushion star. You'll easily recognise them by their nondescript colour, ranging from a murky olive green to pale orange. They are small, plump creatures, growing only to about two inches across.
