Cyclists Told to Use Stronger Locks After Two Bikes Stolen

Summary

Police are warning cyclists to use thicker security chains after two locked bikes were stolen.

The bikes were taken from a cycle park at one end of Gibbon Street in the city centre. The first, a men's red Raleigh Fuego model mountain bike, was taken between April 23 and April 27. The bike, worth pounds280, bore a "Dirt Monkey" sticker on the frame. The second theft, on May 2, was a men's silver Concept mountain bike. The bike, a "Stealth" model, was worth pounds120. Both bikes were chained to poles, but the thieves cut through them on both occasions.
