REGARDING the grant funding for the giant Celtic cross, pictured below, planned for Saltash (yesterday).
I agree with The Herald's We Say comment, in so much that it's correct when it says: "National Lottery funding is not Government cash, and is not there to be spent on making good budget deficits etc". But even so, it sticks in my throat that money can always seem to be found for what I regard as these monstrosities. At the same time, many other worthwhile projects seemingly go begging, and I feel this is what The Herald fails to recognise from those who contributed to the debate. For example, I have been an historic ship campaigner who has fought for more than a decade for historic ships to be better funded and supported. The public only hear about the huge funds being 'wasted' on the Cutty Sark and Mary Rose and those ships attached mainly attached to museums.See the full content of this document
