Summary


Following the death of Lord Stokes, the former chairman of British Leyland, last month, I had a charming missive from Joe Pengelly about Lord Stokes' father, HP Stokes:

"For a whole decade up to 1929, HP Stokes ran the City's public transport system - a heyday for it. At one time it boasted a tram ride of nine miles, from the Hoe to Saltash Passage."
