Helping to Change Image of Resurgent City Waterside
A NEW and more adventurous era in Plymouth has been upon us for some time now and one of the latest incarnations proving its worth has been the creation of the 42,000sq ft Salt Quay House on Sutton Harbour. It is one of a number of buildings which have sprung up around this area of waterfront in the last 10 years with more still in the pipeline.
MARK Roden has been appointed general manager for Toyota and Lexus Fleet and Vehicle Remarketing, taking over from Richard Balshaw after his promotion to sales director. Mr Roden, 45, is currently general manager, marketing and strategy for Lexus, a position he has held since August 2006. Prior to that he was Toyota Network general manager.
THE RAC's 2009 Report on Motoring reveals that nearly 40 per cent of fleet drivers say that higher road tax will not make them choose a "greener" vehicle, writes Sue Cooke. When it comes to issues that concern company car drivers today, less than 50 per cent consider the cost of driving to be of most concern. Jeweller Moves to Bigger Premises in City Centre
A PLYMOUTH jeweller has been renamed after moving to a bigger store in the city centre. Scruples, the specialist jewellery and gift shop, has moved from the Barbican to Mayflower Street and been renamed Armada Jewellers.
Recruiter Looks for 300 People
A RECRUITMENT firm has relocated to Plymouth in a bid to find more than 300 temporary employees to work for several significant local firms. NEWgroup (is well established in the North East of England, but has opened an office in Cattedown to recruit lorry drivers and, primarily, production line workers for the food industry.
Inheritance Tax Interest Is Set to Rise
HM REVENUE and CUSTOMS (HMRC) has announced that it will increase the interest charged for failing to pay an inheritance tax (IHT) bill within the six-month deadline from zero to three per cent this month. IHT is charged at 40 per cent on the value of any estate above the nil-rate band, which is currently Pounds 325,000.
Rail Connection 'Must Improve'
THE rail connection linking Plymouth to Bristol and London must be improved if the city is to benefit from plans to bring in faster trains, a major report says. The rail industry is calling for huge investment to be made to improve Plymouth's 'connectivity' to other cities as its population is predicted to boom during the next 27 years.
